Dodge Dart photos leak ahead of tomorrow's debut - reveal sporty compact sedan that reflects styling of Dodge Charger -

Photos of the Dodge Dart, which Chrysler plans to reveal at the 2012 North American International Auto Show on Monday, leaked out on several websites yesterday.

Chrysler had shared the photos with news organizations in advance of the show. The photos reveal the Dart to be a sporty compact sedan that reflects the styling of the Dodge Charger even though it is based on the same platform used by the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

The 2013 Dart will be built at Chrysler's plant in Belvidere, Ill. It also will be Chrysler's first vehicle based on Fiat engineering. The Dart will be longer and wider than Fiat's Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has said the Dart will give Chrysler a competitive compact sedan for the first time in years. The Dart replaces the Dodge Caliber, which was discontinued last month.

Earlier this week Chrysler said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency certified the Dart at an unadjusted fuel-efficiency rating of 40 miles per gallon.

That enabled Fiat to fulfill a promise that was part of its 2009 operating agreement with U.S. Treasury and cleared the way for Fiat to increase its ownership of Chrysler by 5 percentage points to 58.5%. The unadjusted rating is different than the rating consumers are accustomed to on the window sticker of new cars.
